The War Room (1993)

I’ve seen quite a few people look back at this “era” of American democracy and speak on it as if it were a time of peace or civility. Speaking on our current landscape as if it were simply a product of idiocy or a momentary lapse in judgment on the part of the heartland of America. The War Room does not outright show the sinister nature of American politics as we see it on every single late-night show in the world. But it does act as a prop used by members of an establishment force to reflect a time where we had “so much less to worry about”.

In actuality, this was a moment where democratic politics took a turn to populism in order to gain support amongst working-class white voters. Clinton and his staff used the Reagan era “MAGA” talking point. This included maintaining mandatory minimum laws on non-violent drug crimes and lifting wall street regulations. These are the norms of the republican and democratic party and corporate media would like to paint the needs of the American people as simply being “not-trump” where the party and era of politics that are being depicted as heroes are just as sinister in thinking. All these individuals care about is maintaining the status quo, and the same way Trumpism took the mask off for open bigotry for the republican party, the Democratic establishment did everything to strip progressive candidates such as Rev. Jesse Jackson from a true platform.
